The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) is a professional medical association representing over 39,000 orthopaedic surgeons in the United States and around the world. The AAOS was founded in 1933 and is headquartered in Rosemont, Illinois.

The AAOS is dedicated to advancing the science and practice of orthopaedic surgery and promoting high-quality musculoskeletal health care through education, research, and advocacy. The organization offers a range of services to its members, including continuing medical education programs, practice management resources, clinical guidelines and quality standards, advocacy and public policy initiatives, and research funding opportunities.

In addition to serving its members, the AAOS works to educate the public about musculoskeletal health and the importance of injury prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The organization also collaborates with other medical and health care organizations to promote interdisciplinary care and advance the field of orthopaedic surgery.

Membership in the AAOS is open to practicing orthopaedic surgeons, as well as residents, fellows, and medical students pursuing a career in orthopaedics. The organization also offers membership to physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other health care professionals who work in the field of orthopaedics.
