Ten Speed Press is a publishing company that specializes in high-quality, illustrated books on food and drink, gardening, crafts, and design. The company was founded in Berkeley, California in 1971 by Philip Wood and inspired by the counter-culture and do-it-yourself ethos of the 1960s.

Since its founding, Ten Speed Press has published many successful and influential books, including “The Moosewood Cookbook” by Mollie Katzen, “The Silver Spoon” by Phaidon Press, and “The Art of Fermentation” by Sandor Ellix Katz.

In addition to its own titles, Ten Speed Press also publishes books for other imprints, including Clarkson Potter, Crown, and Harmony Books. The company has a commitment to using environmentally responsible practices in its book production, including using recycled paper and soy-based ink.

In 2009, Ten Speed Press was acquired by Random House, which is now part of Penguin Random House, one of the largest book publishers in the world. However, Ten Speed Press continues to operate as an independent imprint with its own distinct editorial vision and focus on producing high-quality books.
