The book “Biochemistry for Students” pioneered a method introducing various concepts of biochemistry in a readily understandable manner. The book is presented in twenty two chapters, covering all the relevant topics pedantically. The first chapter explains the topics related to biophysics. The chemistry of carbohydrates including their functions and classification is explained thoroughly in the second chapter. The third and fourth chapters deal with the chemistry of lipids and the chemistry of amino acids and proteins respectively. The fifth and sixth chapters describe hemoglobin and enzymes in details. The seventh chapter briefs out the biological oxidation process. The metabolisms of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins are meticulously explained in the subsequent eighth, ninth and tenth chapters. The eleventh chapter discusses conscientiously on the chemistry and metabolism of nucleic acid. Twelfth chapter describes various vitamins and their functions in depth. Various concepts like the acid-base balance, metabolism of water and minerals, xenobiotics and nutrition are explored to the fullest extent from thirteenth to sixteenth chapters. This is followed by the seventeenth chapter that covers different organ function tests. Immunology, cancer and hormones are delineated briefly from eighteenth to twentieth chapters respectively. The protein biosynthesis process is explained in detail in the twenty-first chapter. The concluding chapter discusses on instrumentation and methods in biochemistry.
