This book is written to meet requirements is based on latest recommendations of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Canada and Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) U.S.A. It is organized in 18 chapters starting with historical developments and terminology to planning design and maintenance of airport facilities including terminal runway taxiway aprons and visual-aids. Chapters on Heliport Vertiport Stolport Drainage and Environmental Considerations are also included. This book is structured in such a way that examples and exercises form an integral part of the main text. Typical questions for practice and preparation for various competitive examinations are included in the end. Latest material used for write up of various chapters of the book will also provide basis for postgraduate teaching and research work in airport engineering. About the Author
Prof. Subhas C. Saxena graduate in civil engineering from BIT Ranchi university(1961) and obtained postgraduate degree in transportation engitneering from university of Toranto, canada(1964). He worked as a pool (research) officer on return from Canada at central road research institute. New Delhi(1965-1966). professor saxena started his teaching as a tecturer of civil engineering at Roorkee university( indian institute of technology, Roorkee) in 1967. he joined S.V. regional college of engineering and technology, Surat as asstt. professor in 1970. he was sent as an expert to government of Tanzania by government of India to start a new technical college at Dar es Salaam during1974-1976. prof. saxena worked as professor of civil engineering at university of sulaimania, sulaimania, Iraq (1978-1981); university of Malaya, kuala lumpur(1981-1984); university of dar se salaam, Dar se salaam, Tanzania(1984-1989); university of Zimbabwe, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe(1989-1990); and professor and dean of engineering faculty of national university of science and technology, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe(1991-1995). during his teaching career, besides teaching, he was actively involved in guiding and conducting research on flexible pavements and traffic engineering at above universities. his bublished work consists of 56 research/technical papers and four engineering books “”tunnel engineering””(1972), “”a text book of railway engineering(1973), “”traffic palnning and design”” (1989), and “”airport engineering: planning and design”” (2007). professor Saxena is a fellow of professional bodies such as american society of civil engineers; institution of engineers(India); institute of Zimbabwe engineers; and member of indian road congress; construction institute, USA; transportation and development institute, USA.
